The Speech Style Used By Pastor Brian Houston On Youth And Public Service

This is a sociolinguistic study that focuses on the speech styles used by a Pastor Brian Houston in delivering the sermon in a Public Service and Youth Service at Hillsong church. In order to know the speech style used by the Pastor, this writer chooses the main theory of speech style as proposed By Joos (1967) based on degree of formality. The methodology that the researcher used to analyze the data is descriptive qualitative data from Bogdan and Biklen (1982) in Ahsan (2015). Frozen style is the speech styles that most used by Pastor while preaching on youth service. Casual style is the speech styles that most used by the pastor while preaching on public service. As results, this research shows that speech style depends on who we are speaking with.
