Figurative Language Found in the Song Lyrics of Katy Perry’s Album

Language cannot be separated from that of culture where people use that language in their routine communication. In other words, the choice of words or the way people express their language is also determined by the culture in that region. The expressions of language also reflect whether people are polite or impolite. It means that the language expressions can also be categorized whether they belong to polite or impolite expressions. In certain countries whether people are determined to be polite or impolite depend on the way people use certain language expressions. Based on that above description, the objectives of the study are to finds out the kinds of politeness strategies and it also to describe how the politeness strategies are applied by the main character. In order to analyze data, the descriptive qualitative research design was applied with the consideration that it is used to describe the obtained data. Therefore, the theory is using politeness strategies, the writer found fifteen utterances that contains of politeness strategies. This study leads to a conclusion, the writer can conclude that the main characters in The Karate Kid movie mostly use positive politeness strategies at the time saying each other to satisfy positive face for hearer.
