There are a lot of child abuse cases happen in modern era. One of the
cases happened in Bali, Indonesia which was the case of an eight year
old girl who was abused by her foster mother until she died. Thus, it
becomes the consideration to choose the topic and uses a novel entitled
A Child Called it since this autobiographical novel contains child abuse
experience of an American child named Dave. There are two statements
of the problem in this study: 1) the dehumanization forms presented in
the novel. 2) the impacts of dehumanization toward the main
character’s psychological state. In analyzing the problems, the approach
used is psychoanalysis approach. This study found that there were two
dehumanization forms suffered by the main character: animalistic and
mechanistic dehumanization forms. The impact of his dehumanization
toward his psychological state is depressive disorder that changes his
emotion, cognitive and motivation negatively.
